What are the CRABS?
The CRABS (Conservative Retired Adult BikerS) is a motorcycle club at Fun N Sun RV Resort in San Benito Texas. They started in January of 2005 with 18 Members and have over 100 active members today. The club is about riding motorcycles, social gatherings, involvement in park activities, and helping the surrounding community with social work.
As far as the motorcycle riding they have weekly men’s breakfast rides, weekly couple breakfast rides, at least one lunch ride a week, and then afternoon rides to places like South Padre Island. Trips that are at least 3 to 6 nights long are scheduled at least 2 time each winter season. These trips go to Hill Country, Big Bend National Park, Piney woods, and Southern Alabama. One of the rides is a bike rally where there is a bike show in the park for the residents and then a poker run and lunch afterwards. For the past 6 years there has been a summer get-together in one of the northern states.
Social gathering include monthly potlucks, Crabette Tuesday morning coffee, Sunday night domino games, and a lot of spontaneous cocktail party’s around 4PM till whenever. Couples volunteer to sponsor these events.
In the park the CRABS have floats or motorcycle riders in all of the park parades. They sponsor a monthly dance in the dance hall. The park has a long list of park activities and you will always see the CRABS either being the chairman of the activity or participating in it. Because of this involvement, the CRABS are well respected in the park and everyone is appreciative for what they do for the park.
For the surrounding community they do clothing drives for the needy, have a food drive for the local food pantry, and help with the local bicycle rally which has 10, 25 and 50 mile rides.
